Why your wardrobe isn’t giving you confidence

(even when you do have good clothes)

This Style Queen facing an ever too familiar problem…even when the elements fit right, it can be hard to make it feel put together.

You’ve got pieces in your wardrobe that you like. But somehow you’ve also got so many items that feel misplaced. Items that should work, but you’re not sure why.

Getting ready each day doesn’t always feel as easy as it should and you’re starting to feel like that percentage of women who only wear 20% of their wardrobe…

It’s not all bad though.

Reduce uncertainty by first refining your signature style, decluttering your wardrobe, and curating a vision.

Some days it just comes together. Some days you put something on, feel like yourself, like when you catch your reflection and perhaps even get compliments from strangers. But maybe you’re still not quite sure why or what about it they liked…

Other days, it doesn’t work. Nothing quite feels right. Frustrated, you change a few times before leaving the house, second-guess what you’ve chosen, and leave feeling slightly off – even though to everyone else you look perfectly fine. But you don’t want to just look fine. You want to feel as amazing as you are on the inside.

That inconsistency is frustrating, especially when you know you have good clothes.

It can start to feel like the problem is you. But it’s not.

In a real Style Queen’s wardrobe: when options feel endless, overwhelm is real.

It’s not about whether your clothes are fashionable enough, or new enough.

It’s about whether your wardrobe is actually working together, working for your lifestyle, it works with your shape and your best colours, and together with other pieces in your wardrobe, and it positively reflects your personality.

Most wardrobes are built piece by piece, over time.

You buy something because you like it. Because it fits well. Because you needed something for an occasion. Because it felt right in the moment.

And none of that is wrong.

But when everything is bought individually, without a clear sense of how it all connects, you can end up with a wardrobe full of “good” pieces that don’t naturally come together. It’s easy to see how we ended up with a wardrobe full of clothes, yet nothing to wear…

Get help to define your style, declutter your wardrobe, curate new outfits from what you already own, identify what’s missing and receive a ‘wishlist’ of recommended items.

So building outfits becomes a game of trial and error every morning. You try one top with one pair of trousers. Then swap it for something else. Then add a jacket. Then take it off again.

You’re not lacking options. You’re lacking clarity.

Shopping can start to feel the same way.

You walk into a store and see things you like, but you’re not always sure what will actually work for you. You try something on. It looks good from one angle but not another. You wonder if it’s the right shape, or just close enough.

Sometimes you buy it and hope for the best.

Sometimes you leave feeling more unsure than when you walked in.

Over time, it can start to feel like guesswork.

Effortlessly update your style in a way that’s modern, authentic to you and supports your lifestyle.

Not because you don’t have taste, but because no one has shown you what to look for.

What most women are really looking for when seeking our support as their personal stylist is clarity. Clarity and confidence.

Clarity to know which shapes tend to suit them. Which colours bring their complexion to life. Which pieces will actually work with what they already own. Without that, every decision feels heavier than it needs to be.

Clarity of where the gaps are in their wardrobe. Clarity of what the wardrobe essentials are how to utilise pieces that are unworn or you want to wear more of.

Ease of what works, understanding of what are the ‘wardrobe essentials’ and what are the ‘style items’, and what’s my style anyway…?

The goal is to be able to open your wardrobe full of clothes that you love, and know the options that work together, that everything fits you and has a place in your life.

Pieces that effortlessly mix and match to be worn in different ways...

At this point, you’ll feel a big shift.

The goal is to be able to open your wardrobe full of clothes that you love, and know the options that work together, that everything fits you and has a place in your life.

On this day I could quite see the learning about ‘wardrobe essentials’ happening. And this pic because I don’t think I’ve laughed quite so hard in a changing room than with this Style Queen.

Pieces that effortlessly mix and match to be worn in different ways, without feeling like every outfit has to be figured out from scratch.

At this point, you’ll feel a big shift.

You begin to see what you already own differently. You realise there are more outfits there than you thought - they just weren’t obvious before.

When this Style Queen found items that were so on brand & aligned with what she was seeking, we both squealed with joy.

No matter how frantic your morning has unexpectedly become, you can get ready faster than ever before. And you leave the house knowing that you feel amazing and that you look amazing, dressed head to toe in an outfit suitable to kick every goal of your day.

Confidence in clothing is often spoken about as something emotional.

But in reality, it’s also very practical.

When you say you want to feel confident, you’re often really looking for something underneath that.

You want clarity.

You want ease.

You want confidence in your clothes.

Starting with the clothes… you’ll find yourself making bigger decisions in life without second-guessing yourself. More than anything, you feel confident and more ‘you’.

A few more nice little flow-on effects of having a curated wardrobe include fewer unworn purchases, less impulse buys for things you’ll never wear, saved time to do things that are more important than getting dressed, less time second guessing yourself, and showing up as your best self. Life’s too short, am I right?

If you’d like help with that, Imogene and the Spree with Me style squad are here to help you in your wardrobe at home or shopping and styling together.

The inconsistency you’ve been feeling isn’t random, it’s so societal….see my last blog for more on that….
